Amanda Durbin

Amanda was born and raised in Plain City, Ohio. She attended Columbus State where she earned her Associates of Art, with a minor in Photography. Amanda also played on the Women’s Basketball Team there for two years. She loves to take cruises and relax somewhere tropical anytime she can sneak away on vacation. When she isn’t in the office, she will most likely be spending time with her husband and her Miniature Australian Shepherd, Mason.

My family is from Lebanon originally. Settled in the heart of Plain City, Ohio and opened a family grocery store there in 1910. My parents and grandma still live at that address to this day.

What is your favorite thing to spend money on?

Vacations/Cruises, happy hours and cook outs with friends, Golfing, and our dog.

What was the best advice you ever received?

Follow your gut instinct – it’s usually right.

Robin Manning graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English, and Master’s degree in English, Second Language Acquisition, from Kent State University. After 7 years of teaching at Kent State University in Ohio, as well as Bunkyo Women’s University and Hijiyama University in Japan, Robin used her experience recruiting international sister schools, to cross over into executive recruitment. Spaghetti with cheese. (not the same as mac & cheese, that I also love though!)

Selling Dior Cosmetics at the mall

I graduated from Ohio State and live in Columbus so naturally, I love OSU football and my second favorite is the Ohio Machine (Major League Lacrosee). My boys play lacrosse so we don’t miss any MLL games in the summer.

What is that crazy GONG?

Every time someone accepts a new position through ESS, the recruiter bangs the gong.  We are excited for the candidate, their family, and the new company they are joining.  I think it’s exciting every time we hit the gong because I know we helped someone new.

Tell me something interesting about your family that people don’t often know.

I grew up with two brothers and now have four daughters of my own.  All signs of manliness have disappeared from my house.  In fact, I can now recognize shoes and purses by name – HELP!

If you could do one thing outside the office (and money was no object) what would you do and where would you go?

I would spend 24 months traveling the world.  I would like to spend a month in each of 24 different countries learning the culture and understanding the people.  I would get a part-time job in each country to appreciate the work style and economy.

What was the best advice you ever received?

Take Risks.  Your personal fear is your only limitation

My grandma attended the same West Virginia high school as NBA legend Jerry West (the silhouette of the NBA logo), and even danced with him at her prom!

Both. I love the unwavering loyalty of dogs, but love the fact that you have to earn a cat’s trust.

I had an externship during culinary school at Red Sage, a restaurant in Washington D.C., two blocks from the White House.  I had the opportunity to cook for some significant people like Rosa Parks, Richard Branson, and Bob Dole, to name a few.

My stepfather was drafted by the Chicago Cubs.

What is the coolest job (besides this one) that you have ever had?

Working at Benroth’s Dairy Freeze in Bluffton, Ohio. We lovingly called it “The Whippie Dip.” I worked there for 3 seasons with several friends and even met my husband there. He must have been mesmerized by the blizzard ice cream flung into my hair. (Those machines are harder to master than you would think).

What is your favorite sports team?

Whatever team my two boys are on that season; football or lacrosse.  I also enjoy attending local sporting events for The Ohio State University and Columbus’s professional hockey team, Columbus Blue Jackets.

What is your favorite thing to spend money on?

Vacation with my husband and our two boys.  We try to pick a new vacation spot to explore every summer.

I couldn’t eat one type of food for the rest of my life! Variety is the spice of life and I enjoy trying new foods.
