Introduction:

February saw a surge in new openings for people open to making a job change. This followed January, which was our highest number of new openings in over two years. This is great news for job seekers who have struggled to find many openings in the last few years. One of the interesting developments so far this year is when we have had some people turn down an offer, companies are trying to be more creative in their offering for the people they really want. One of the things we discuss with candidates is for them to consider the scenario in which they could see themselves working there? If you do not currently consider that question in your evaluation process, I encourage you to add it to your process.

Our new website www.ess123.com has open positions updating in real-time as we receive them. We also have our newsletter and jobs-only newsletter go out each month. If anything has changed on your end regarding the type of roles or companies you would consider, please let me know.

Ask the Recruiter – “What are some tips for interviewing in 2026?”

The biggest thing you can do to put yourself in the best light is to prepare for the interview. On the surface, this seems like an obvious answer but let’s break it down.

Self-preparation:
1. Review your work history and be prepared to provide examples of when you made money, saved money, and/or improved efficiency in roles you worked.
2. Prepare examples of how you quickly learned about a new product or technology. Think about how you can shorten the ramp up time by providing history of when you did it before.

Company Preparation:
1. What are the core values of the company and how can you incorporate examples of demonstrating those values in your work experience history?
2. What has the company done in the last 12 months that has you excited? What about news regarding new products, technology or market growth coming?

Position preparation:
1. Review the job description and identify the top 3-5 key responsibilities and match those up with your own work experience.
2. Provide an honest assessment of where you feel you would thrive in the role and be challenged in the role and why both of those excite you.

Hiring manager preparation:
1. Think about the key challenges for the person you are interviewing with. What are they facing and how can your experience fill in the gaps?
2. What problems can you solve right away and what problems can you resolve over time?

“Once they meet me, they will love me!” When we hear people say this, it’s a potential red flag. Preparation is essential and thinking about each aspect impacted by hiring you, including the company, the job, and the hiring manager will help you prepare better for interviews.
