Hot Jobs – ESS

Introduction:

We hope you and your family had a great holiday season. We were able to spend time with our families and energize in anticipation of a great 2026. It’s only the first week but we have seen companies starting to make moves. More companies than normal have reached out over the last two weeks to begin recruiting for roles, which is a great sign for people in the job market.

We have started to see more consulting opportunities so if you have ever thought about consulting, please let me know. If you have never consulted through ESS, we have a couple of options. One, you can be a 1099 contractor. All you need to do is complete all the necessary paperwork, and then you would withhold all your own taxes. The second option is to use one of our payroll partners. In this scenario, you would consult through the company, but you would be paid as an employee of the payroll company. This option often comes with benefits and makes it easy to work anywhere in the country.

If you would like more information about this or if you would like a consultant on a short term or project basis, please reach out.

Ask the Recruiter – “How should I update my resume?”

One of the best practices we recommend everyone does is update their resume a minimum of once a year. This way, you capture successes as they happen. By capturing these success stories, you can add more quality content to your resume while also equipping yourself with real examples for the interview process.

Below are a couple of suggestions since January is one of the most popular months for updating resumes:

  • LinkedIn – You should have LinkedIn presence and have a complete profile. Internal and external recruiters use LinkedIn to source people.
  • LinkedIn audit – Make sure the dates on both your resume and LinkedIn profile match up. Many recruiters treat the LinkedIn profile as the same as a resume, so you want to make sure its up to date and the information is accurate.
  • Think numbers – Be sure to include numbers in your profile. Think of examples where you made money or saved money or improved efficiency. Things you can assign a value to are tangible.
  • Be patient – Depending on when you last considered making a job change, the job market is slower for a lot of roles. Starting earlier, knowing the process will likely take longer than the last time you searched sets yourself up for realistic expectations.

If you would like other suggestions or would like to see a sample recommended resume, please let me know. If you need specific help on navigating any job searches that you have in process, please let me know.
