Ask the Recruiter – “What are some funny highlights over the last 25 years?”
Introduction:
We had a lot of support and encouragement last month from people like you who celebrated our 25-year anniversary with us. Thank you for being a part of ESS extended family!!
With Labor Day behind us, the sprint to the end of the year begins. Each year we see an uptick in activity as summer vacations wind down, kids are back in school, and companies shift focus to hit the goals for the year. We also see companies upgrading their team this time of year because people have not performed or they are already looking forward to next year and want to assemble the right team now to hit the floor running on January 1.
With the recent jobs report this week, it supports what we are seeing, which is that there are not a lot of open jobs out there. For the jobs that are open, employers are taking their time to ensure they get exactly what they want. If you need help with an opportunity you may have found on your own, please reach out.

Ask the Recruiter – “What are your occupational priorities?”
This is one of the most important questions we ask people during our screening process. The surprising news is how few people truly know the answer to the question. The most common answers to the question are opportunity for advancement, a strong culture, and a good compensation plan. On the surface those are all good answers. The people who know the answer to the question and can provide specific answers have an advantage in their job search. Because they can articulate what they want, they now know what questions to ask and what answers to listen for. If you don’t know what to listen for, you may be one of the people who says, “that sounds pretty good” even though what was shared may be of no interest to what you truly want.
To help prepare for interviews, we encourage you to spend time on this question and ask yourself what your criteria is, why it’s important to you and what questions you will ask to make sure the opportunity matches your expectations.
If you need help navigating any job searches that you have in process, please let me know.
