Introduction:

March saw the job market continue to evolve in a positive way for job seekers. We are seeing more companies looking to hire people and we are noticing some companies are aggressively moving people through their hiring process. For some of our clients, it’s not unusual for them to schedule multiple interviews in the same week when historically most companies will do one interview a week.

We will have our first quarter numbers to report next month but one of our key statistics we track is “time to fill” which for us means how quickly the company moves the applicant from presentation stage through to acceptance stage.

Our new website www.ess123.com has open positions updating in real-time as we receive them. If anything has changed on your end regarding the type of roles or companies you would consider, please let me know.

Sampling of Positions Filled in the Last 30 days:

Ask the Recruiter – “What should I be aware of when I am completing an online application?”

Completing an application online is part of the process for almost every company. When completing the application there are a couple of areas we have seen that may impact how the process moves or what the final offer is. Below are a couple of areas to pay special attention to:

1. Compensation expectations – This is a tough question to answer, especially before any interview has occurred and your interest is based solely on a job description. Depending on when the job description was written, some of the details may be outdated and not relevant. We have seen people change their compensation requirements after they are interviewed and better understand the scope of the role. The challenge becomes when HR creates the offer and reviews the application, they often use the number on the application as the base line to determine what to offer.
2. Dates of employment – A month here and a month there, who will notice? Not providing accurate data is like falsifying a college degree or certification. Both are not worth the risk due to the implications.
3. References – We encourage having a formal conversation with anyone you would consider as a reference to ask them if they would like to be a reference for you. Not everyone wants to be a reference. You want to put your best foot forward with your references. People who are enthusiastic about supporting your career are great people to use. Putting down names without informing the person they are listed as a reference may lead to a less than stellar reference.

As you complete an online application be sure to think about the long-time implications of what you are entering so you do not paint yourself in a corner down the road. If you need help or suggestions completing an application, please reach out to me directly.
