Introduction:

When we reflect on the job market 3-5 years ago, it had quite a different feeling. In 2022 and 2023, companies were hiring across the board. In 2026, there are pockets at companies that are hiring. It is no longer across the board but the departments that are hiring are aggressively pursuing talent to upgrade their department. The “Positions Filled” section below is a good representation of the areas in which we are seeing activity.

June starts vacation season for many people. Hiring processes may slow a little as companies try to coordinate schedules. The key is to be patient and stay active. Too often, we see people put all their eggs in one basket, the process takes several months, and then it does not work out. We encourage people to keep searching until you have offers in hand so you can choose versus just taking what is offered.

If you need help with your job search or would like to discuss a job you have in process, please reach out to me.

Ask the Recruiter – “What are some best practices for video interviews?”

Video interviews are here to stay. Knowing how to best navigate them may give you an advantage during the interview process. Everyone has had video meetings but not everyone has done a video interview. Below are some best practices to consider:

1. Hide your self-view – Looking at yourself on the screen can be distracting. By hiding your face on Zoom calls, you can focus more on everyone else in the meeting. This change in settings needs to be completed at the beginning of each Zoom call, Hide Self View.
2. Face the light – Using light in front of you is the best way to present yourself. Having bright lights behind you or above you shade your face and distract the other person on the call as they may struggle to see you.
3. Practice with someone – If you have not already, please create a call with a trusted friend or co-worker who can provide honest feedback. Distractions in the background, poor lighting, animals in the room and distracting clothing are all little things that can add up.

Video calls can elevate your game. When done correctly, it feels like you are centerstage with the lighting, background, and your preparation. Having a strategy checklist is the first step to creating an impression on your audience.
