Ask the Recruiter – “Can I get hired before the end of the year?”
Introduction:
As we wrap up 2021 and look forward to 2022, we wanted to wish you and your family a great holiday season and a happy new year!
The current 4.2% unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been since February 2020. This translates to the trend we have experienced throughout 2021. Employers are having difficulty retaining and attracting employees while job seekers have multiple options to consider. As we look forward to 2022, in our opinion, we do not see a significant change happening meaning market conditions will likely stay the same. This is great for people looking to make a change. This is a big challenge for employers looking to attract or grow.
If your department or your company anticipates growing in 2022, know it will be difficult and your hiring process needs to be sharp and responsive. If you know you will need help or would like ideas and suggestions on best practices to help add people to your team or company, please reach out.
Ask the Recruiter – “CAN I GET HIRED BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR?”
One of worst assumptions people make each year is that there is no hiring in December. After 21 years in the recruiting industry, we can say with 100% certainty that companies absolutely hire people before the end of the year. Although it is often a shorter month, this year is no different, companies have various reason to speed up the process:
- Ready to go – Department heads often want to hit the floor running in the first quarter. For this reason, they want to start the year fully staffed rather than playing catch up in the first quarter.
- Complete projects – The fourth quarter is typically the time of year where people need to finish yearly goals they committed to at the beginning of the year. With the rate of 2021, some people have put off staffing if possible.
- Team is here – The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas typically has most people working. Because of this, interviews can move fast as few people are out on vacation.
- Budget to spend – Companies often need to spend money with recruiters as well as other services before the end of the year or they lose that money the following year.
If you are a job seeker, this is a great time to complete your search to be eligible for next year’s bonuses etc. If you would like to discuss your search or if you need help finding talent for your department or company, please let me know.
