Ask the Recruiter – “What should I ask during the interview?”
Introduction:
The unemployment numbers were released last week, and the rate last month rose to 4.1%, the highest rate since November 2021. This is consistent with what we see in the market as well as what we hear from peers in the recruiting industry who work in other specialties. Having said that, there are also companies and pockets of skill sets that are hiring aggressively. Companies hiring now have an advantage as the available talent pool is larger than it has been in a couple of years.
Another topic we are keeping an eye on is the non-compete ban. Last Friday the ban was put on hold, but there are significant implications when the ban begins. In the last 12 months we have seen more companies enforcing their non-competes and legal teams have become involved. If non-competes are removed permanently, some companies will be significantly impacted.
Ask the Recruiter – “What should I ask during the interview?”
Having questions for each interviewer is essential to a successful interview process. Sometimes interviewers have no prepared questions and are on the schedule only to answer questions. For this reason, it’s imperative to have prepared questions to ask each person you interview with. Please note that the questions should be different for each person, since the role will interact with each position in a slightly different way. Below are sample questions you may want to incorporate in your next interview:
- What goals would this position achieve at the end of the first six months?
- Picture yourself giving me a great review on my one-year anniversary – what did I accomplish?
- How will this role impact you and your success?
- What can I do in this role to help you and this department exceed goals more quickly?
- How do you like to provide feedback? What is the best way to ask questions to ensure we are on the same page?
These are just a few of the questions you may want to consider when preparing for your next interview. Well thought out questions that indicate you completed research and show your interest in the role will help you present yourself in the best possible way. If you have questions or would like other suggestions, please call, or email.
