Introduction:

There’s a new scam going around, and it’s targeting job seekers. We recently had a client who was victim to this scam unknowingly. Scammers created fake ads online using the company’s logo for open jobs. They staged interviews and even “hired” candidates. Once hired, with minimal communication, the hired candidates were asked to provide banking information for direct deposit. At that point, the hopeful candidates lost money in their bank accounts.

We understand people are eager and excited to land the right opportunity. If it sounds too good to be true or if it is too simple to be hired, it may be a scam. From the ESS perspective, this is another reason to use a recruiter during your job search as we collaborate directly with specific contacts at each client we work with.

We encourage you to share this with other people so no more people are impacted by this type of scam. If this happens to you or someone you know, we encourage you to contact the authorities and the company.

If there is anything we can do to help you with your job search, please let me know.

Ask the Recruiter – “Why are companies taking so long to make decisions?”

One of the biggest changes in market conditions over the last two years is the amount of time it is now taking for some companies to make decisions. To be clear, we have a lot of companies that move extremely fast and only use us when they are ready and committed to hire. We also have companies who give us roles to start searching for a couple of months before they are ready to hire someone.

Below are the top reasons we are seeing delays in the hiring process:

  • Need multiple comparisons – Companies know the job market has changed and can be a little pickier. More companies require multiple finalists to choose from before making the final decision.
  • Seeking more input – Some companies are including more people in the hiring process by adding steps or people to the panel interviews. The extra people slow down the gathering of the follow up from the interviewing team.
  • Internal evaluation – Companies are watching their budgets and watching their talent more closely. When possible, companies would prefer to promote from within rather than bring an external person in. With a longer process, there are more chances for an internal applicant to be identified.

One of the keys to navigating the job search today is being flexible and continuing to interview until you have offers in hand. Some people choose to interview and wait. We encourage you to stay active as things are changing while also moving more slowly
