Introduction:

The first two months of the year have seen more stability than we saw in 2024. More and more companies are beginning to upgrade their teams which will provide job seekers with more opportunities to consider. The pace of the hiring process continues at the rate it did in 2024. Getting hired in only a couple weeks like people did in 2021 and 2022 seems unlikely in 2025. Companies are more demanding and deliberate in the hiring. One note, if you happen to be applying for a newly created role, our hiring history with newly created roles shows these take much longer than a replacement as the company figures out what exactly they are looking for.

If you happen to be in the job market or thinking about entering the market, some questions to consider:

  1. How do I feel about being full-time in the office or a hybrid work schedule?
  2. How will the pay impact what work schedule you are willing to agree to?
  3. How do you feel about other departments not having the same requirements?

We are discussing work schedules with our clients as we know this impacts on the willingness of certain people to raise their hand. Some companies are beginning to make blanket statements on the work schedule employees are required to follow. The number of fully remote roles continues to drop.

If you need help with your search, have an updated resume, or would like help upgrading the talent at your company or department, please let me know.

Ask the Recruiter – “Why do I need you, now that I am in process with the company?”

Sometimes we work with a candidate who has not worked with a recruiter before or who may have had a bad experience with a recruiter. At ESS, we want to support your interviewing efforts each step of the way. Below are some of the most common reasons to stay in touch and keep us in the loop:

  1. Scheduling – Scheduling sounds easy to do. But when you have been in different time zones, it becomes more challenging. In addition, what number to call or what link to use are all little things that can cause stress and can easily negatively impact a process.
  2. Preparation – At ESS, we pride ourselves on knowing the people involved in the hiring process. In addition, we often know what types of questions will be asked. By knowing this, you can better prepare and have more complete answers ready to go.
  3. Negotiation – The majority of people have never directly negotiated their own compensation package. Understanding the compensation package and where there may be some wiggle room for both the employer, and you can make this step seamless.

We see working with an applicant as a partnership in which we work beside you each step of the way. Our job is to help both you and the employer be as prepared as possible for each interview to ensure both parties can make an informed decision if this is the right match.

If you need help with the current interview process, even if ESS is not involved, please let me know.
