Ask the Recruiter How do I communicate my interest after my interviews are completed?”

Introduction:

In over 24 years of experience, we have found that many candidates and companies falsely believe that hiring stops between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. But in that time, we have seen both individuals and companies committed to getting the right people hired before January 1st. This year is proving to be the same as we have seen a recent uptick in job openings that companies have communicated that they want filled before the end of the year.

If you happen to be searching for a role and would like to get hired before the end of the year, please let me know and I can give you a realistic probability based on your skill set. Frankly, some skill sets companies will move on quickly and some skill sets they will not.

On the other hand, if you are in a position where you would like to fill a critical opening on your team or within your department before the end of the year, please let me know. Depending on the requirements, we may be able to do it and would welcome the challenge.

Ask the Recruiter – “HOW DO I COMMUNICATE MY INTEREST AFTER MY INTERVIEWS ARE COMPLETED?”

One of the biggest frustrations for people interviewing for jobs is not hearing back from companies and not knowing the timeline for a decision on the role. We are frequently asked the best way to manage this situation. Below are some best practices:

  • Ask where they are in the hiring process – Are you the first, fifth or tenth person they have interviewed? How many more people do they have scheduled to come in?
  • When would they like to have someone start? Most people will say asap but some people will provide a more realistic time frame for when they would like someone to start.
  • Who did you connect with during the interview process? There likely is 1-2 people you felt like you connected with. These could be potential people to call or to send an email to be seeking out an update.
  • Ask, “When should I follow up?” Some companies appreciate someone demonstrating a sincere interest by calling or messaging a couple of days or weeks after the interview. Including this question in your list of questions may provide the clarification you seek.

Having an awareness of the process, the timeline and the next steps will help you manage your expectations better. Recognizing people you had a connection with, and topics that provide insight during the interview process will also help you manage your follow up strategies.
