Unemployment numbers were released last week, and the rate rose to 4.1%, the highest rate since November 2021. This is consistent with what we see in the market as well as what we’ve heard from peers in the recruiting industry who work in other specialties. Companies hiring now have an advantage as the available talent pool is larger than it has been in a couple of years. Companies who can identify the skills needed can find the right talent quickly if they want to.
Another topic we are keeping an eye on is the non-compete ban. Two weeks ago the ban was put on hold, but there are significant implications when the ban begins. In the last 12 months we have seen more companies enforcing their non-competes and legal teams have become involved. If non-competes are removed permanently, some companies will be significantly impacted.
